Mapping Victorian Fungi

We have finished the final events for the the conservation project ‘Putting Victorian fungi on the map’ (CVA). We would like to thank all the host groups and individuals who helped us get around most of Victoria. Some of the feedback from the groups was heartening to hear:

Sterilising our shoes before surveying conservation site near Ballarat (Emily Nobel)
“When I attended the Fungi workshop I did not realise how fascinating it would become.”
“That was a superb workshop, and do pass on my thanks to Sapphire. She has that rare gift of being both so-o-o-o-o knowledgeable and a brilliant communicator. I’m keen to put the knowledge of Fungimap to use at school on our little patch of bush here.”
“All the participants really enjoyed it and I’d say the whole exercise was a great success.”
“Tom had loads of knowledge which he easily shared. We would never had noticed some of the fungi without him.”
“Thanks for a terrific, fascinating and enlightening workshop and field foray.”

During the fungi season our educational events reached ~160 people in 2018 and ~200 people in 2019, with Fungimap Mycologist Dr Sapphire McMullan-Fisher, and Fungimap volunteers and Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria mycologists Dr Tom May and Dr Teresa Lebel leading the workshops. We sadly didn’t make it to the Mallee nor the North East regions as we couldn’t find any local groups to work with. So although the funded part of this project has finished if you would like educational events in your area and can help find funds, contact us at Fungimap. We are keen to continue getting information out there about what fungi are doing in our bush lands and how to record them. The events below were led by Dr Sapphire McMullan-Fisher, unless otherwise indicated.
