On the ground or in litter in eucalypt forests. This species has a deep blue cap with a dark yellow umbo and is often slimy. The tall stem is tinted blue at the top and white to yellow near the base. Rusty-brown spores colour the pale lavender gills and lodge on the fibrillose remains of the cobwebby veil (cortina).
