Astraeus hygrometricus – Barometer Earthstar

On nutrient-poor soil in woodlands, cleared land or gardens, associated with exotic trees. The round, brown, stemless spore sac with ragged opening is surrounded by 6 brown, thick, leathery triangular rays. Rays are characteristically tessellated exposing the pale flesh beneath. This earthstar is strongly hygroscopic.
