Astraeus hygrometricus – Barometer Earthstar

On nutrient-poor soil in woodlands, cleared land or gardens, associated with exotic trees. The round, brown, stemless spore sac with ragged opening is surrounded by6 brown, thick, leathery triangular rays. Rays are characteristically tessellated exposing the pale flesh beneath. This earthstar is strongly hygroscopic.
