The Great Aussie Fungi Quest 2023 is live!

Launching today, you can be part of our second annual national fungi bioblitz, hopefully the biggest in history in Australia!

To get involved, you need to upload any fungi you see anywhere in Australia through the month of May to either the QuestaGame or iNaturalist app.

Observations will aggregate through to the Great Aussie Fungi Quest event page without you needing to do anything extra (but please note there is a delay of approx 3 days for records coming via iNaturalist), and then they will be publicly available in the Atlas of Living Australia.

We’ve developed this Fungi Quest Field Guide for information on how to photograph and describe your fungus to make the record more identifiable for our panel of experts as it comes in.

As well as the event taking place nationally, this year we are focussing on a few specific regions where historically there have not been many fungi records: the Murraylands and Riverland (SA), Toowoomba (QLD), and Lord Howe Island(NSW). Please make an extra effort to submit records if you are in one of these regions! These target regions have their own council leaderboard, with some great prizes to be won!

Thank you in advance for uploading your fungi observations, and also thanks to everyone who verifies other people’s records in May via either iNaturalist or QuestaGame – it’s much appreciated.

You’re helping document Australia’s amazing and precious fungal biodiversity one record at a time, and we can’t wait to see what comes in!
