Alison Pouliot SEMINAR & BOOK LAUNCH From curlews to curry punks
April 16 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm
Since 2011, the local community from Bendigo to Baringhup has been paying special attention to the fungi of the local farms and forests. In particular, the Shelbourne Conservation Reserve has become a fungal focal point for farmers and students, Landcarers and conservationists, and other interested folk.
During this time, local ecologist and environmental photographer, Alison Pouliot has assisted with forays and surveys to help discover the various fungus species that collectively contribute to the health and resilience of local ecosystems.
Between 2012 and 2016, Alison spent a thousand days in the forests of a dozen countries to search for the answer to one question – why are fungi regarded so differently to other forms of life? The local Shelbourne-and-surrounds folk helped Alison answer that question and their stories feature in her new book, The Allure of Fungi.
Join us for this illustrated evening seminar (and supper!) to hear their stories and to find out more about how fungi provide the vital links from curlews to curry punks and beyond, which help underpin our functioning planet. Alison will discuss the importance of fungi in the context of old growth trees and diverse ecosystems, and the people who are making a difference.
Signed copies of Alison’s book will be available for purchase.
