Join the Fungi for Function team for our final year of citizen science surveys!

We are searching for 28 fungi target species in stringybark bushland as part of a 3 year pilot research project. It’s a great opportunity to learn how to identify some common fungi and lichen species, and find out more about their essential roles in our ecosystems.

We are looking for volunteers for 20 survey days starting with the following dates:

Thursday 4th June 10am-3pm – Hope Forest (near Willunga)
Friday 5th June 10am-3pm – Hope Forest (near Willunga)
Saturday 13th June 10am-3pm – McHarg Creek (near Prospect Hill)
Monday 15th June 10am-3pm – McHarg Creek (near Prospect Hill)

Participants will need to watch some short training videos prior to attending, and ideally use the iNaturalist app. Participants need to be able to walk up and down gentle slopes, move through vegetation, and get down close to the ground to observe fungi.

The Fungi for Function project is coordinated by Fungimap Inc with passionate fungi supporters in our partner organisations – the Adelaide University, Botanic Gardens and State Herbarium, CSIRO (ALA), Culture to Country Consulting, Fleurieu Environment Centre, Hills Biodiversity, Kersbrook Landcare, Murraylands and Riverland Landscape Board, National Parks and Wildlife Service, Second Nature Conservancy, Trees for Life, and the Willunga Environment Centre. This project is supported by a grant from the South Australian Government’s Citizen Science Fund.
