May 5 2013: Three mostly inexperienced groups of approximately 8 individuals each surveyed a section of the track for 1.5 hours, accompanied by 1 mycologist and 2 experienced field naturalists. The intention was to get experience recording as much as possible during the time alloted; no plots or transects used.

The site is along the new walking track at Philosopher Falls in the Tarkine, a cool temperate Nothofagus-Atherosperma rainforest dominated in the overstory by Nothofagus cunninhamii myrtle beech (55%), Atherosperma moschatum sassafrass (25%) and Eucryphia lucida leatherwood (15%) and an understory of  Dicksonia antractica soft treefern, Olearia argophylla musk daisybush (10%) and Pittosporum bicolor cheesewood (7%).

Care should be taken not to spread Amanita muscaria, a weedy fungus seen at the carpark, further into the habitat.

At BowerBird, www.bowerbird.org.au under the Philosopher Falls, Tasmania project. Registration to site required.
